Toutrism

don't think it's a negative at all, the people that run the place now know that things have to change. In addition, actually, this seems to be an active and positive interest in getting GBs tourism up to par again. According to a Nassau Tribune reporter, GB was voted the worst destination by cruise lines Disney and Carnival. Both Neko Grant (Minister of Tourism) and Vernice Walkine (Dir Gen of Tourism) are both quoted as saying that cruise ships do not want to come to Grand Bahama anymore because passengers are not receiving satisfactory vacation experiences on the island. Disney (Magic) has said that GB is NOT where they want it's passengers to go. .it doesn't matter what happens before they leave Orlando, what they experience in GB ruins everything" said Mr Grant. Well-this has seemed to light a fire in some areas. Yes, service here IS mediocre sometimes, so they are launching the 'My Bahamas...let's make it better Again' campaign right now to replace the failed 'Bahamavention' marketing plan. In the Freeport News, the Editorial refers to this bad service issue by taking the Taxi drivers to task, suggesting that some of them take lessons in how to be civil, that their cabs should be cleaner. It's interesting to note that on the next page is an article mentioning that head of the Taxi union wants an increase in fares..... It's a pity that some of the surly and downright bad service staff here will probably ignore these remarks and still think life will go on. What I would LIKE to see is the mandatory 15% gratuity out of the window. I normally tip well over that if the service is good, but I have complained a couple of times about the service here and the 15% was taken off. But if those folks knew that their tip amount depended upon their own actions, they would make some kind of effort to improve themselves. So it would seem that the Government is tackling the issue....I hope they succeed
